After finishing our album this late fall, Phil and I have been doing a lot of hardcore relaxing over the holidays.  Any day now, we’ll have to get back to practicing, but for now, we are doing whatever we want.

In Phil’s case, that’s a lot of watching MacGyver and Bear Grylls (Man vs Wild) episodes on the laptop, or plotting how to finish the cabin.  In my case, I’m trying to learn or improve on as many new skills as I can in as short a time as possible.  Working currently on: nunchuck tricks, brain tanning of roadkill hides, Yanlates (pilates as taught by our drummer, Yan), Ashtanga yoga, sewing, Spanish, and relaxing.

We are both really enjoying listening to other people’s music again.  Doug Paisley on the stereo right now.  So effing good.

This week we went to the beach with my brother, his wife, and some friends. The dogs are happiest here.  Spice, our smallest dog, (pictured above) is sort of new to beach etiquette, however, because of having been an outside-living country dog before we met her.  Today she totally just up and ate a tentacle from a deadly Portuguese Man of War jellyfish, and was completely unfazed.

We just watched the sunset on the porch with a glass of wine.  Happy to be alive, and excited about the year to come.  2012, y’all.
