Today Phil and I woke up at 7:30 a.m. and did our best to sleep in, but it was hopeless. It felt like 1:30 Euro time, and there was no getting around it. We are temporary morning people. This won’t last long though, that’s for sure. Not if I have anything to do with it.
So today we went for a jog, kind of amazed at how spacious and quiet NC is, compared to the cities of Europe. The trees are gold and orange and pale yellow, and the sky is pale turquoise. We have been staying at my mom’s house since last night, which means we can do laundry and flop around in sweatpants. And we ate apples with peanut butter and raisins for breakfast. We also had an impulse buy at the Fresh Market yesterday, where we bought unfiltered apple juice and mulling spices! If this isn’t the weather for hot apple cider, I don’t know what is.
We were a little sad to miss Halloween in North Carolina, especially the pumpkin carving. Halloween is the best holiday of all, other than the solstices and equinoxes. And this Halloween was almost a full moon.
Anyway. Tonight we are honored to be a part of the Troika Music Festival, in Durham, NC, which is run by Melissa Thomas, one half of the couple (with Michelle) who also takes care of our dog Olive during winter tours. Some of the other bands playing Troika are:

Festival runs for three days, and there are dozens of amazing bands, and it is gonna be fantastic. The three day pass is $20, which is a really good deal. Individual day passes are $8.
The best thing is that local people can see us play with our new amazing drummer, Dan “Yan” Westerlund. We will also definitely be watching Yan’s brother Joe drumming in Megafaun at 7:30 at the Durham Central Park.
